Azerbaijan Urges the U.S. Not to Create Tension in Baku-Yerevan Relations

Azerbaijan's various political parties and lawmakers have appealed to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. According to APA, the appeal states that the hypocrisy of U.S. Congress members regarding Azerbaijan's sovereign territories and their actions against the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia have generated deep outrage within Azerbaijani society.

Azerbaijani NGOs have conveyed their rejection of such unilateral approaches to the U.S. Secretary of State: “We believe that the pro-Armenian figures during the Biden-Blinken era have essentially engaged in blatant provocation against President Donald Trump's peace efforts in the South Caucasus.” Recently, leaders from Azerbaijan and Armenia met in Abu Dhabi. Reports indicate that the text of the peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia has already been agreed upon. Serious and challenging work is underway to advance the peace process. The calls from U.S. Congress members are nothing more than attempts to obstruct this process. They are trying in every way to create artificial tension and a new flashpoint in the region,” the publication states.

The appeal mentions that former senator Bob Menendez, who previously advocated such anti-Azerbaijani, pro-Armenian initiatives and was a staunch critic of President Trump, has been convicted of corruption and bribery. “One of the initiators of the aforementioned appeal, Democratic Senator Adam Schiff, has harshly criticized Mr. Trump and called for his criminal prosecution,” the article notes.
