Trump Confirms First Military Contract for Ukraine
The American company BAE Systems Land & Armaments LP has secured a $9 million contract for the maintenance and preparation of Bradley combat vehicles. The funding has been allocated under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) program for the fiscal year 2025.
Despite the relatively small amount of the contract, this marks the first military aid provided to Ukraine by Donald Trump’s administration during his second presidential term. It is noteworthy that USAI is a Ukraine defense funding program that has allocated more than $31 billion between 2022 and 2024.
Earlier reports indicated that Trump plans to allocate a new aid package worth several billion dollars to Ukraine in response to recent Russian strikes. This also marks the first instance where Trump used the Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) to send weapons to Ukraine without Congressional approval, with a package amounting to nearly $300 million.
It is worth mentioning that on July 14, Trump announced an agreement with NATO regarding the supply of weapons to Kyiv through the alliance to support Ukraine's defense.
