I Do Not Regret My Political Assessments: Hakobyan Writes a Letter from Prison
Samvel Hakobyan, a member of the Yerevan City Council’s Mother Armenia faction, has published a letter from his father, former MP Ruben Hakobyan, from prison.
“With the mediation of the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia, I have been subjected to fabricated charges and detained for political reasons due to my demand for the resignation of the person occupying the position of Prime Minister during a broadcast titled ‘We Must Enter, Grab by the Ears, and Throw Out’ aired on the second Armenian television channel,” he wrote.
Hakobyan particularly noted in the letter that he does not regret the political assessments and statements made during the broadcast. “Due to the unconstitutional and unlawful actions of the authorities, the state is plunging into an abyss, relevant structures are paralyzed, an atmosphere of fear has been created within the framework of established authoritarianism, and high-ranking clergy, national benefactors, political figures, and actively opposing youths to the ongoing political agenda are being detained for obvious political reasons,” he stated.
It should be recalled that the Avan and Nor Nork Administrative Courts have detained former MP Ruben Hakobyan for two months. He is accused of making public calls aimed at seizing power during an interview via mass media on July 1, 2025.
