Gagik Beglaryan Charged

In the Anti-Corruption Court, presided over by Judge Suren Khachatryan, the case of former Minister of Transport and Communications, former Mayor of Yerevan, and former leader of the "Kentron" community, Gagik Beglaryan, is being examined today. Beglaryan has been charged with abuse of office and money laundering. This was reported by Factor.

According to the charges, from October 1, 2002, to March 4, 2009, he held the position of head of the "Kentron" community of Yerevan, and from March 4, 2009, to December 8, 2010, he served as the Mayor of Yerevan. Under Article 32 of the Republic of Armenia's Law on Local Self-Governance, he was entitled to appoint the deputy community head, secretary of the staff, and heads of structural and separate subdivisions, as well as to propose to the community council the alienation of community property and the allocation for use, manage community budget funds, ensure their targeted use, and sign financial documents. In other words, he acted as a public official exercising organizational-administrative and economic authority in the local self-government body.

Using these powers, he allegedly turned into his own property 25 pieces of real estate valued at a total of 2,327,584,000 AMD located in the Kentron community of Yerevan, between 2004-2008 and during 2010, with the aid of other individuals, for mercenary motives. This violated the interests of the community, causing significant damage to its legal interests, resulting in severe consequences due to negligence.

Additionally, during 2009, he allegedly prompted the abuse of his official position for personal gain, with the assistance of other individuals, which also resulted in significant damage to the community's legal interests. From 2004 to 2017, he legalized part of the real estate acquired through criminal means, organizing and prompting the legalization of this property with significant value.

Two other individuals are also charged in this case.
