The Lease of the Transport Corridor in Syunik for 100 Years May Escalate into a Cold War: Forbes

Observers assess the likelihood of failure in U.S. negotiations regarding the lease of a road connecting Armenia and Azerbaijan at 60%, according to Forbes.

The publication notes that the project could be delayed by 12-18 months.

Forbes analyst Güney Yıldız believes that Washington is making significant bets on Zangezur as a corridor led by the U.S. that could reduce energy costs in Europe and counter Russia.

The bold proposal to lease the transport corridor in Syunik for 100 years promises an annual trade turnover of $50-100 billion, but risks igniting a new point of tension in the Caucasus region that could escalate into a cold war.

Improvement of relations between Armenia and Turkey could enhance access to resources from the Caspian Sea, potentially reducing import costs by 10-15% for companies on the British stock market.

It is recalled that the U.S. has proposed to take control of the transport corridor in Syunik between Armenia and Azerbaijan to accelerate diplomatic efforts towards peace between the two South Caucasian countries. This was announced by U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barak during a press briefing last Friday, as reported by Middle East Eye.
