U.S. Responds to Proposal for 100-Year Control of Transportation Corridor in Syunik

The United States supports efforts to ensure peace and stability in the South Caucasus, stated U.S. State Department spokesperson Tami Bruce. The spokesperson responded to a question from an Azerbaijani journalist regarding whether the U.S. supports a recently announced initiative by U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Thomas Barak, which involves the management of a transportation corridor by an American company for a period of 100 years.

“This is a question that we need to clarify with the White House, with the President's team, to see how they would respond. But what I can confirm at this moment is that the United States certainly supports all efforts that contribute to peace and stability in the South Caucasus. We are monitoring these developments,” said Tami Bruce.

It is worth recalling that the U.S. has proposed to take control of the transportation corridor in Syunik between Armenia and Azerbaijan to expedite diplomatic efforts for achieving peace between the two South Caucasian countries. This was announced by U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barak during a press briefing held last Friday, as reported by Middle East Eye.
