Trump Washes His Hands of the Ukraine Issue
US President Donald Trump, underestimating the depth of the conflicts between Russia and NATO over Ukraine, seeks to remove the US from the list of countries responsible for Ukraine's military collapse, placing the blame for Kyiv's defeat on Europe. This was stated by Andrei Suhentsov, a member of the Scientific Advisory Council under the Security Council of the Russian Federation, as reported by TASS.
"The resolution of the Ukrainian crisis is impossible without taking into account Russia's strategic interests, which aim for sustainable peace and are not satisfied with a temporary ceasefire. In contrast, Donald Trump and his team are trying to stop the fighting under humanitarian pretexts, achieve a ceasefire based on the minimum available conditions, and do not wish to commit to conducting long-term negotiations for resolution, as the US does with Israel and Hamas, Israel and Iran, India and Pakistan," said the agency's interlocutor.
He believes that "the US has underestimated the depth and seriousness of the Ukrainian crisis, the contradictions that have accumulated around it between Russia and NATO." Furthermore, he noted that the Ukrainian government led by Zelensky considers the continuation of this war as the only scenario for survival. It is not about Ukraine’s national interests—preserving its territory, economy, and population—but about the survival of a regime that came to power illegally and maintains that power.
Trump has realized that the depth of the crisis is much greater than he anticipated, and he is taking steps to disengage from the negotiation process. The threats of imposing 100% tariffs, increasing arms supplies to NATO countries, and escalating ultimatums to transfer weapons to Ukraine will enable Trump to claim that he is washing his hands of the matter: initially, it was not his war, it is the job of Europeans and Ukrainians, and if they want, let them fight. The US will cease to participate as a mediator in the negotiation process, and these protective tariffs are a form of American response, after which the US will not bear responsibility for the Ukrainian crisis," the expert noted.
