About 90% of Armenian Cognac in Russia Considered Unsafe
The share of Armenian cognacs in the Russian market found to be non-compliant has reached 85%. This was reported by TASS, citing authorities from Soyuzcognac and Antikontrafakti.
“Most of the tested samples do not meet the requirements of the cognac and brandy GOST standards, as well as Russian legislation,” the statement said.
Non-grape spirits were detected in 50% of the samples; such products cannot be labeled as cognac. It was previously reported that low-quality cognac spirits are supplied to the Russian market (either with artificial additives or using wheat instead of grapes).
Additionally, Vladislav Reznik, president of Antikontrafakti, stated that representatives of the association met with the Deputy Minister of Economy of Armenia to address the issue.
