Netanyahu Accuses Syria's New Leader of Violating Israel's 'Red Lines'
One day after issuing orders for mass attacks on government and military sites in Syria, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he will continue to employ military measures to uphold Israel's two 'red lines' in Syria. This was reported by the Times of Israel.
"We have developed a clear policy. The demilitarization of the area from the Golan Heights to the Druze Mountains, south of Damascus, is one of the [red] lines. The second line is the protection of our brothers, the Druze, in the mountains of Druze. We will not allow military forces to descend south of Damascus; we will not allow the Druze to suffer in Jabal Druze," Netanyahu stated.
According to him, the regime of Ahmad al-Shara in Syria has violated both of these 'red lines'.
"He sent troops south of Damascus to the area that was supposed to be demilitarized and began the slaughter of the Druze. We could not agree with that in any way," emphasized the Israeli Prime Minister.
He added that the ceasefire declared by al-Shara in Syria, which included the withdrawal of Syrian forces, "was achieved through force. Not by asking, nor by begging, but through force."
"We have acted and will continue to act as necessary," Netanyahu stressed.
