Istanbul Mayor Sentenced to Imprisonment
A Turkish court has sentenced Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu to 1 year and 8 months in prison. The court found him guilty of public insult and threats directed at Istanbul's chief prosecutor.
"I have fought against the abuse of the judicial system and its use as a political tool. This is truly an insult to our nation," İmamoğlu stated.
The case originated from İmamoğlu's remarks directed towards Chief Prosecutor Akın Gürlek, the content of which remains undisclosed. Reports indicate that the case pertains to statements made by the mayor in January 2025.
