Pashinyan on Meeting with Erdogan

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that he did not have any negative impressions from his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He made this remark during a press conference today.

"I thanked the Turkish president for an open and sincere conversation. We discussed all the issues, including the opening of communications, the establishment of relations, possible cooperation in various fields, and the restoration of the historic bridge of Ani. The overall impressions were positive; I cannot mention any negative nuances for that meeting, but I must say that nothing tangible was decided as a result of this meeting – for instance, the border was not opened as a result of the meeting," he noted.

According to the Prime Minister, we must also change our perceptions, as deeply rooted issues cannot be resolved with just one negotiation or one meeting. We need to work consistently, build trust, and prepare our societies, as there are many complexities and sensitivities involved.

"I have no doubt that we will reach the point where, ultimately, diplomatic relations will be established and the border with Turkey will be opened," Pashinyan emphasized.

He also mentioned that there is a constant dialogue with Turkey, for which he is very pleased.

It is noteworthy that the delegation led by Pashinyan made a one-day working visit to Turkey on June 20. According to the official statement, the Prime Minister discussed the peace process in the South Caucasus and the development of dialogue, as well as Armenia's interactions with Turkey and Azerbaijan during the meeting in Istanbul with Erdoğan.
