Major EU Countries Start Abandoning US Arms Purchases for Ukraine
Four major European countries have decided to withdraw from the project initiated by US President Donald Trump to purchase American weapons for Ukraine. The initiative has not received support from France. According to Politico, President Emmanuel Macron is calling on European countries to develop their own defense industries using local producers.
As for Italy, it will not participate in the project due to a lack of funds. Rome will not follow Germany's example. The Czech Republic has also opted out of Trump's program, with Prime Minister Petr Fiala explaining that Prague will focus on other projects and methods of assistance.
Another country opposing this is Hungary. As noted by Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, Budapest will not fund such supplies.
It should be recalled that on Monday, the US president presented Moscow with a 50-day ultimatum, demanding a peace agreement with Kyiv. He threatened to impose 100% customs tariffs on Russian goods if the conditions were not met.
