Israel's New Strike on Iran Expected, Says Iraqi Prime Minister

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is likely to once again decide to strike Iran in order to prevent regional destabilization and maintain his position, according to Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani in an interview with the Arabic newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat.

“Everyone knows that Netanyahu has not adhered to ceasefire conditions in Gaza and Lebanon. It is highly likely that he will attack Iran again. I believe the U.S. is prepared to continue its policy, seemingly directed towards the continuation of regional conflict to maintain its political positions,” said the head of the Iraqi government.

As al-Sudani pointed out, the Iraqi leadership is extremely concerned about regional stability and the situation at the borders amid exchanges of fire between Iran and Israel. “You cannot watch a neighboring country burn and be confident that the fire will not spread to you,” added the politician.

Recall that Israel launched a military operation against Iran on the night of June 13. The day after, the Islamic Republic initiated a retaliatory strike. The United States entered the conflict nine days later, launching an attack on three Iranian nuclear facilities on the night of June 22. In response, Tehran targeted the largest U.S. airbase in the Middle East, Al Udeid in Qatar. According to U.S. authorities, there were no casualties or significant damage. Later, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed on a complete ceasefire. The ceasefire took effect on June 24.
