I Have Never Heard Anything More Foolish: Orban on Borrowing to Finance Ukraine

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated: 'In these difficult economic times, where will this money for Ukraine come from? From debts. This means the plan is for EU member countries to collectively fall into debt, take out loans, and send that money to Ukraine. Honestly, I have never heard anything more foolish in my life, or at least I would have to dig very deeply into my memory to recall anything like it. The European economy is suffering; it has lost its competitiveness. People in Europe are paying three to four times more for gas and two to three times more for electricity than our competitors. If we have money or want to take out a loan, which in itself is already problematic, why should we take on a collective debt at all? But if we want to attract large amounts of money and think about what Europe needs money for first and foremost, there is only one answer: to restore its economy. This money should be spent on that, not given to others. This money should be spent right here in Europe. And here, the Union takes on joint debt, and Hungarian funds are also sent to Ukraine. I will oppose this until the end.'
