Peace Leaving 150,000 Armenians in Uncertainty Cannot Be Stable: Former Armenian Foreign Minister
Former Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian has stated, reflecting on discussions with two Swiss parliamentarians in Washington this week, that "a peace that leaves 150,000 Armenians displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh in constant uncertainty cannot be stable. Moreover, silently responding to the forced emigration of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh and the dissolution of the self-governing system undermines the foundations of international law and creates a dangerous precedent worldwide. The right to return is not a political concession, but a legal and moral obligation enshrined in UN conventions and international human rights documents."
"I believe that our visit to Washington was very timely, and the discussions at least hinted to the U.S. that there are alternative viewpoints to the approaches driven by short-term interests, narrow perspectives, and artificial quick solutions," he wrote.
