European Parliament Calls on Georgia to Hold New Parliamentary Elections

The European Parliament has adopted a revised resolution regarding Georgia, based on the European Commission's reports for 2023 and 2024. The document received support from 490 Members of Parliament, with 147 against and 49 abstentions.

According to the resolution, "The European Parliament reaffirms its position that the political and constitutional crisis in Georgia can only be resolved by holding new parliamentary elections in the coming months, in an improved electoral environment, under an independent and impartial electoral administration, and with the oversight of diligent international and local observers to ensure a truly fair, free, and transparent process that reflects the genuine will of the people."

The European Parliament has also called on the EU to impose sanctions on Ivanishvili and his circle. The MEPs approved a stringent report on Georgia, rejecting the legitimacy of the current one-party parliament and the Georgian president, labeling it as a "state seized by the illegal regime of the Georgian Dream." The document was adopted with 490 votes in favor, 147 against, and 49 abstentions.
