Samvel Karapetyan Files Lawsuit Against Taron Chakhoyan and Nazeli Baghdasaryan

Businessman Samvel Karapetyan, currently in custody, has filed a lawsuit against Nazeli Baghdasaryan, the press secretary to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Taron Chakhoyan, deputy head of the Prime Minister's staff, and political analyst Harutyun Mkrtchyan. He demands that each of them publicly refute what he considers defamatory information and pay 9 million drams as compensation for non-material damage. This has been reported by 'Hetq'.

Nazeli Baghdasaryan publicly disclosed information on her Facebook page on June 17 and 24, 2025, claiming that Samvel Karapetyan was self-proclaimed as a saint due to his photo being displayed in the Mother See and that he is interfering in Armenia's internal political life under instructions from another country, with the aim of turning Armenia into a periphery and fighting against statehood.

The Prime Minister's spokesperson also published a photo that included Samvel Karapetyan, implying his involvement with a group opposing Armenia's sovereignty. Karapetyan considers this information defamatory.

Furthermore, according to Karapetyan, Baghdasaryan has also insulted him and he demands a public apology for this. Specifically, he found the following remarks by the press secretary offensive: "I don’t understand whether this is a power outage or a weak connection on his part. In any case, make a detour, his feet are off the ground. The Tashir samonars are fighting against Armenia’s statehood."

Regarding Taron Chakhoyan, the deputy head of the Prime Minister’s staff, he made statements on Facebook on June 17, 18, 21, and July 1, 2025, implying that Samvel Karapetyan is an agent and that his visit to Armenia is connected to a so-called 'assignment' and the circumstances mentioned in his posts. Due to Karapetyan’s attitude towards the Armenian Electric Networks company, there is an energy crisis in the country, among other claims. The businessman considers this information defamatory, false, and baseless, for which he also seeks an apology.
