Traffic Organization Changes Implemented

During the latest operational meeting of the Yerevan City Hall, the head of the transport department Vazgen Harutyunyan presented the changes implemented regarding traffic in Yerevan.

"From Argishti street towards Mashots street and the Victory Bridge intersection, all types of vehicles are allowed to cross the intersection from the first traffic lane straight and to the right, and from the second lane directly and to the left. From Argishti street towards the intersection of Italy and Grigor Lusavorich streets, all types of vehicles are allowed to cross the intersection from the first, second, and third traffic lanes to the right towards Grigor Lusavorich street, while from the fourth lane, straight towards Italy street.

At the intersection of Grigor Lusavorich and Argishti streets, left turns from Grigor Lusavorich street to Argishti street have been prohibited. All types of vehicles are allowed to cross the intersection from the first, second, third, and fourth lanes only straight towards Grigor Lusavorich street at the Mashots avenue intersection.

At the Grigor Lusavorich-Mashots avenue intersection towards the Victory Bridge, all types of vehicles are permitted to cross the intersection from the first lane to the right towards Mashots avenue, from the second and third lanes straight towards Paronyan street, and from the fourth and fifth lanes to the left towards the Victory Bridge.

From Beirut street towards Grigor Lusavorich and Argishti streets, all types of vehicles are allowed to cross the intersection from the first lane only to the right towards Grigor Lusavorich, while from the third lane only straight towards Argishti street. The second traffic lane is allocated for public transport.

Mayor Tigran Avinyan added that "there should be signs upon entering Beirut street so that drivers are aware beforehand that the first lane goes only to the right, avoiding last-minute lane changes and illegal maneuvers."

Continuing with the traffic changes, Transportation Department Head Vazgen Harutyunyan noted, "From Italy street towards the intersection of Khorenatsi and Vazgen Sargsyan streets, all types of vehicles are allowed to cross the intersection from the first lane to the right and straight, from the second lane straight, and from the third lane, which is allocated for public transport only to the left. Stopping has been prohibited on the right side of Italy street.

A dedicated lane for transport has been implemented from the Mashots avenue intersection to the Vazgen Sargsyan street intersection, making stopping of vehicles in that section prohibited. At the Mashots avenue-Khorenatsi street and Mashots avenue-Amiryan street intersections, a trial traffic light marked BUS has been installed, which serves only the transport.

Changes to the operation modes of traffic lights have also been implemented. Due to these changes, further modifications to the traffic light regimes are planned in the coming days, which will facilitate more unobstructed vehicle travel and ensure the continuity of transport flows along the main routes.

After the completion of the mentioned works, changes to the organization of traffic on Saryan street are set to begin in the coming weeks, which will involve organizing one-way traffic on Saryan street from Mashots avenue towards Baghramyan avenue," he emphasized.

In turn, Mayor Tigran Avinyan stated, "In the small center, we will have certain changes presented, which may create some issues for vehicles in some cases, but mainly we need to understand one crucial thing - the number of cars in Yerevan is steadily increasing. If we don’t start prioritizing public transport, we will face a situation close to collapse at some point in the future."
