Seiran Ohanyan on Criminal Proceedings Against Him

National Assembly deputy Seiran Ohanyan writes: "In violation of Article 108 of the Constitutional Law on the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly, which states the procedure for granting consent to initiate criminal proceedings against a deputy or to deprive him of freedom, specifically in point 3, which stipulates: 'If the deputy mentioned in the petition is absent at the beginning of the deliberation of the issue due to URGENT reasons, then the issue is discussed without their participation,' today, at the initiative of the ruling party, Deputy Prosecutor General Anna Vardanyan submitted a petition to the National Assembly for consent to initiate criminal proceedings against me in my absence due to health issues.

On July 1, I sent a letter to the President of the National Assembly stating that I could not attend the extraordinary session of the National Assembly because I have been receiving rehabilitation treatment at a rehabilitation center since June 27, and it is still ongoing. A certificate from the medical institution was attached to the letter. It is evident that the ruling group of the Republic of Armenia, being informed about my temporary incapacity for work, has organized this show against me and my colleagues with two main objectives: to divert public attention from the serious threats directed against our state, which they themselves have created, and to continue systematically neutralizing all political, social, military figures, benefactors, and clergymen who are fighting for Artsakh, Armenia, and for the existence of the Armenian people and their spiritual values."
