Russian Tourists Cancel Trips to Azerbaijan

Thousands of Russian tourists are canceling their trips to Azerbaijan due to the arrest of their compatriots in the last three days, with demand decreasing by at least 30%, reports Lenta.ru.

According to estimates from the publication, there are currently between 300 and 500 Russians in Azerbaijan who arrived through tour operators, as well as 10,000 to 15,000 who arrived independently. Tour operators note that more and more clients are canceling trips to Baku and are opting for alternative routes to Georgia, Turkey, the UAE, or regions in Russia.

ATOR reports that there are no issues with flights, borders are open, and everyone can travel safely. From January to April, around 180,000 Russian citizens arrived in Azerbaijan.

It is worth mentioning that the relations between Moscow and Baku deteriorated after a series of arrests of Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg on June 27. The Russian Embassy in Azerbaijan has reported numerous requests from Russians present in the republic. There are reports of physical violence against Russian citizens, and complaints have been received, including from tourists.
