USAID Ends Charitable Operations from State Budget
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio officially announced the dissolution of USAID as an independent agency. According to him, this marks the "end of an officially recognized era of government inefficiency." USAID has long been the flagship of American foreign aid, operating from Latin America to Afghanistan. However, it now seems that they have decided to no longer remain ceremonial regarding reforms.
Some functions may be transferred to the State Department, but there will no longer be a separate entity. "Many critics of USAID have called it a tool of political influence under the guise of aid. This was the type of soft power that the current administration has decided to categorically reject. No soft power, only hard," Rubio stated.
