There is a Public Demand to Impose Fines: Galjyan

The head of Yerevan's council faction of the Civil Contract party, Armen Galjyan, wrote on his social media page:

“Recently, many citizens have expressed legitimate concerns regarding cases where certain individuals take advantage of public transportation without paying. According to available data, about 80 percent of passengers pay diligently, and this is the case when there is no fine in place, which is quite a good indicator and speaks to the high social responsibility of citizens. At the same time, however, certain groups persistently violate this principle. This phenomenon undermines the sense of social justice and ignores the interests of the law-abiding majority.

This is one of the exceptional cases where there is a public demand for fines to be imposed. Meanwhile, the ‘Mother Armenia’ group, which is affiliated with the opposition, has organized a protest in front of the National Assembly, where the fine bill is set to be discussed today. Shockingly, not even members of this 12-person faction could turnout, apart from themselves, which indicates a disconnect from the real concerns of citizens and suggests they are only occupied with disparaging the work that has been done.”
