A Special Court Will Be Established Against Russia, Zelensky Signs Agreement

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed documents to ratify an agreement for the establishment of a Special Court to address crimes of aggression committed by Russia against Ukraine. He announced this on social media.

“I urge the народних deputies to discuss this matter immediately. I also expect that the teams of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Office will quickly present a working schedule with partners for the implementation of the agreement on establishing the court and for the real launch of the institution,” emphasized Zelensky.

The president highlighted that this year, Russia must feel that its accountability for the crime of aggression is unavoidable, and that the international legal process to hold Moscow accountable has truly begun.

It is worth recalling that on June 25, Zelensky and Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alena Bersena, signed an agreement in Strasbourg to establish a special court for the crime of aggression committed by the Russian Federation against Ukraine. The Ukrainian president stated that the next step is the approval by the Verkhovna Rada, after which the international legal process will begin.
