They Say Why Now, Because Tomorrow It Will Be Too Late: Kocharian

The wiretapping is not a matter of one or two days; it has occurred as a result of a large-scale operational effort, and I am convinced that this will prevent similar intentions, and if anyone has such thoughts in their mind, there will no longer be.

This was stated by Andranik Kocharian, the chairman of the National Assembly’s Defense and Security Committee, in an interview with NEWS.am, referring to the criminal proceedings initiated by the Investigative Committee regarding terrorist acts organized by the "Holy Struggle".

“Everyone has understood that Armenia's law enforcement system, with its operational capabilities at this moment, has the possibility to prevent such desires as soon as possible. Many are asking why now, because tomorrow it will be too late, in that logic. I made a comparison with October 27; if on October 26, the NSS had discovered it, which they had the opportunity to do and is proven by the investigation, we would not have had the terrorism of October 27. Unfortunately, during the trial, they did not allow that part to be included in the case from those days. During the report of the Prosecutor General, I said that Aghvan Hovsepyan should clarify why they went for expedited trials, why those important segments were set aside. We must acknowledge today that the NSS, the police, and our operational environment managers were able to prevent something that was necessary for all of us,” he said.

In response to the observation that there is still no court decision, yet the authorities characterize what happened as terrorism, Kocharian said: “What do you call it, charity? It hung by operational actions. We should not stand by and wait until two people are shot dead, the roads are paralyzed, and chaos is created. It is very important that the opportunity they planned did not become a reality and did not happen. You should be happy that such things are being prevented in our country.”
