HETC Director on Nationalization Project

David Ghazinyan, the interim director of HETC, described the government’s proposed project for the nationalization of HETC as "illiterate" during a press conference today, correcting his previous mistake.

"In a previous interview, I mistakenly referred to it as a 'semi-illiterate draft law.' Now, I correct my error, being a lawyer, I consider it an 'illiterate draft law.' I don’t know how offended they will be, or if they will be offended at all. I am even ready to justify it in whatever format they wish," Ghazinyan stated.

The acting director does not consider the approach of nationalizing a company making such significant investments in a developing state to be acceptable, adding that the government had not even attempted to express its dissatisfaction with them before this.

"The issue here is why these people—our authorities—are not willing to discuss this. If I may express my personal opinion, I assume they fear that they will be shown to be wrong as a result of those discussions. Even the mere thought of nationalization raises concerns about a presumption of madness," he noted.

In response to a question about possible steps the company could take, the interim director replied that since the owner of the company is a pro-state person, HETC will fight through all possible legal and state avenues. After exhausting internal possibilities, they will turn to international institutions.

"We are receiving very negative feedback from our international partners," Ghazinyan added, without revealing further details.
