US to Impose 500% Tariffs on Russia's Partners Not Supporting Ukraine
Russian trading partners that do not provide support to Ukraine will face a 500% tariff from the US, US Senator Lindsey Graham announced today.
"What this bill does is if you are buying goods from Russia and not helping Ukraine, then a 500 percent tariff is placed on your products," he said in an interview with ABC News, commenting on plans for new sanctions against Russia.
Graham noted that the bill is primarily aimed at India and China, which he assesses as major importers of Russian oil. "My bill has the support of 84 senators who have backed the document before it goes to vote. It will allow the president to impose tariffs on China, India, and other countries," Graham emphasized.
The American senator, known for his anti-Russian rhetoric, had previously introduced a sanctions bill that proposes a 500% import tariff on goods coming from countries purchasing oil, petroleum products, natural gas, and uranium from Russia. Later, Bloomberg reported that senators are not prepared to pass the bill without the approval of President Donald Trump, and the European Commission head has emphasized the need for a systematic application of sanctions against Russia.
