NSS Calls on Archbishop Mikayel to Not Hide as Decision is Made

A decision has been made to initiate public criminal prosecution against Archbishop Mikayel Ajapahyan for making public calls to seize power and violently overthrow the constitutional order.

During the preliminary investigation of a criminal case being conducted by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia, it was decided to initiate public criminal prosecution against Mikayel Archbishop Ajapahyan (Georgy Artashes Ajapahyan) under part 2 of Article 422 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. This decision was made because he made public calls directed at seizing power and violently overthrowing the constitutional order using mass media, information, and communication technologies.

In this regard, a decision has been made to arrest the defendant Georgy Ajapahyan on June 27, 2025, in order to apply detention as a measure of constraint. The implementation of this decision has been assigned to the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia.

The National Security Service urges all citizens to refrain from escalating the situation and to not obstruct the lawful actions of law enforcement agencies. We call on Archbishop Mikayel Ajapahyan (Georgy Artashes Ajapahyan) to not hide from the authorities and to present himself to the operational group of the National Security Service waiting for him.
