New Law in Russia Regarding Stateless Individuals

The deputies of the State Duma of Russia have approved a bill regarding stateless individuals in the second and third readings, which grants them the right to enlist and serve in the Russian Armed Forces, reports Vedomosti.

The bill was submitted to the State Duma in April. According to it, changes are being made to the laws on "Military Obligation and Military Service", "Defense", and "Status of Military Personnel". After the first reading, the authors of the initiative made amendments: contracts for military service with stateless individuals and foreigners can be concluded until the end of the mobilization period, the cessation of martial law, or the termination of wartime.

Before coming into force, the bill must be signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. In the explanatory note of the document, it states that its implementation is necessary "to take urgent additional measures for the replenishment of the Russian Armed Forces" from the day of official publication.
