Russia's Foreign Ministry on the Escalation of Tensions in the Middle East

The attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel, as the Russian side has warned, are leading to a sharp escalation of the situation in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf and to radical destabilization. This is stated in a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

We once again call for the cessation of the spread of armed escalation, to refrain from provocative actions and rhetoric. Now, more than ever, it is necessary to return to political and diplomatic efforts and adhere to international law. For these purposes, Russia will continue its energy line at the platforms of the UN and the International Atomic Energy Agency during bilateral contacts with various parties,” the statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry reads.

The message further notes that the unfounded aggression of the US and Israel against Iran and their blatant attempts to change the regime constitute a violation of the country’s sovereignty, interfere in its internal affairs, and deny the Iranian people the ability to determine their own fate, grossly violating the UN Charter and the fundamental norms and principles of international law. Such unacceptable developments must be immediately halted.
