NATO Faces Dangerous Crisis and May Collapse Due to Trump, Bloomberg Reports
NATO is experiencing the most dangerous crisis in its 75-year history, and it may collapse due to the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States, according to Bloomberg.
“NATO is currently confronted with four simultaneous crises: security challenges due to the conflict in Ukraine, preparations because of the decline of European armies, strategic priorities shifting towards Asia due to the U.S. pivot, and a crisis of trust exacerbated by Trump’s actions,” states professor Hal Brands in the report.
According to him, the tensions within the alliance intensified following Jay D. Venesi’s speech in Munich, which was accompanied by a sharp cooling of relations with European allies from Washington.
The author notes that NATO has already faced divisions due to the Suez Canal crisis, the Iraq War, and France’s refusal to participate in military command. However, today’s situation is more dangerous than the previous ones and is pushing NATO closer to collapse.
