Armenia Has a Significant Election Ahead Next Year, Says Secretary General of the Council of Europe

During the ongoing summer session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, Rhipsime Grigoryan, a member of the Armenian parliament delegation, inquired about the impressions from the recent visit to Yerevan and the democratic developments in Armenia from Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Allen Bersh.

The Secretary General positively assessed his visit and stated that Armenia is moving in the right direction. “In my view, we have seen Armenia's quite strong European aspirations for many years. This is important to note. The role of the Council of Europe is to work with countries to ensure the right development. For this, we have an office in Yerevan, which I have also visited. We have about 50 employees there who are doing very important work towards developing reforms, implementing various programs, and making values a reality,” he said.

“This is quite important, my impression is very positive. I understand that in every country there can be issues that need to be corrected, or questions to raise. That is natural. However, the overall trajectory is also important. In my impression, Armenia's trajectory is good, it is moving in the right direction. This is crucial since you have an important election next year,” emphasized the Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
