Police Officers Dismissed for Drug Use

As of May 31, 2025, a total of 8 officers from the National Police have been dismissed for drug use, and an additional 2 have been let go for refusing to undergo examinations during an internal investigation.

The Police Department provided data to Hetq regarding the number of officers dismissed for drug use, illegal trafficking, and distribution between 2020 and 2025. According to statistics, the highest number occurred in 2024, with 18 employees dismissed, including 15 for drug use, 2 for refusing examination during an internal investigation, and one officer dismissed following a guilty verdict becoming legally binding.

The police indicated that this individual was charged with committing an act defined by Article 393 of the Criminal Code, which involves engaging in large-scale sales of drugs, psychoactive substances, their precursors, or equivalent substances for profit. The penalty for this crime ranges from four to eight years of imprisonment.

In 2021, another police officer was dismissed following a legally binding guilty verdict related to illegal trafficking of drugs or psychoactive substances in especially large quantities without the intent of sale. This type of crime is punishable by imprisonment ranging from two to six years, as the provisions of the 2003 Criminal Code were in effect at the time of the conviction.
