How the World Reacted to US Strikes on Iran

The world's opinions on how to respond to the American strikes on Iran are divided, as was to be expected. This was reported by 1lurer.am, citing BBC.

The strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities on Sunday night have drawn sharp criticism from countries that traditionally oppose the United States, as well as from the Arab world. However, America's usual allies—Japan, Australia, New Zealand—have spoken much more mildly about America’s actions, emphasizing the threat posed by Iran while also calling for peace and negotiations.

Kaja Kallas, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, urged all parties to return to the negotiating table, also stressing that “Iran must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.”

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, wrote on social media: “Iran must never obtain a nuclear bomb. In the context of new tensions in the Middle East, stability must be a priority.”

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barron stated on X, “France is convinced that a final solution to this issue must be found within the framework of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.”

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, stated, “Iran must never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons, and the US has taken steps to diminish that threat.” Starmer called for Iran to return to the negotiating table and find a diplomatic solution to the conflict.

The actions of the US have been criticized by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Cuba, Venezuela, Russia, and Arab nations. Saudi Arabia, which has close security ties with the US and is one of its closest allies in the region, announced that it condemns “the violation of Iran's sovereignty and emphasizes the need for restraint.”

Oman, which has mediated between Washington and Tehran in nuclear negotiations, strongly condemned the US strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities.

Mohammed al-Buheiti, a member of the Houthi Political Bureau, stated in an interview with Al Jazeera that “the response to the US is a matter of time.”

“We will respond to any aggression directed at us or any Islamic nation. The Arab and Islamic peoples must act since the US seeks to change the entire Middle East,” al-Buheiti said.
