Iran Decides to Close the Strait of Hormuz
The Iranian parliament has decided to close the Strait of Hormuz. They are awaiting final approval from Islamic leader Ayatollah Khamenei, according to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
It is worth mentioning that after the Israeli attacks, Iran was discussing the possibility of closing the Strait of Hormuz, stated Esmayeel Kossari, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian parliament.
"The option of closing the Strait of Hormuz is currently under discussion, and Iran is not hesitant to make a decision," he was quoted as saying by the Rokna platform.
It is important to note that the Strait of Hormuz accounts for up to 30% of global liquefied natural gas supplies and up to 20% of oil and petroleum product shipments.
Earlier, Iranian authorities had warned that they could restrict navigation in the Strait of Hormuz if national security was threatened.
