The Issue is to Dismantle the Armenian Apostolic Church – Marukyan
Today, the Armenian Apostolic Church commands the largest lobbying network in Armenia, which has served and continues to serve the protection of state and national interests. Under the noise surrounding the schism, the strongest Armenian lobbying organization is being neutralized, a process that benefits the enemy. This was announced by Edmon Marukyan, the president of the 'Enlightened Armenia' party, on Facebook.
He emphasized that the church opposes Azerbaijan anywhere in the world where Armenian temples stand. 'The church spiritually nourishes our compatriots living outside Armenia and strengthens, and sometimes even creates, their connection to the homeland. Accordingly, Azerbaijan has set a goal of destroying this institution, which fulfills this key function, while the authorities of Armenia enthusiastically serve this enemy agenda,' wrote Marukyan.
He pointed out that under Azerbaijan's plan, Armenia should become part of Western Azerbaijan, and in Western Azerbaijan, the Armenian Apostolic Church cannot exist in its current institutional form. 'Thus, I do not view the recent processes in the context of any supposed violations of the vows of high-ranking clergy. The issue is to dismantle the Armenian Apostolic Church as a system, as the largest Armenian lobbying organization,' concluded Marukyan.
