I Don’t Know of a Single Case Where 'Veolia Water' Has Firmly Refused: Chairman of the Regulatory Commission

Particularly in large cities, we have serious sewer issues. This was stated by the Chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission, Mesrop Mesropyan.

“Over the years, we, the state and the 'Veolia Water' company, have achieved quite tangible results regarding water supply and the increase of new volumes, but we still have serious problems with sewers, where we need to approach with larger-scale, perhaps state programs so that we can solve these pressing issues,” said Mesrop Mesropyan.

According to him, in some cases, the sewage falls under 'Veolia Water's' jurisdiction, in some cases it is under the municipality, and in others, it falls under private citizens and individual associations.

“We have numerous problematic situations, but I don’t know of a single case where the issue has reached us, and we have tried to resolve it through 'Veolia Water', and 'Veolia Water' has firmly refused to do anything about it, regardless of whether it falls under its jurisdiction or not. However, I know that municipal administrations and mayors are also trying to address these issues jointly with 'Veolia Water', but as you mentioned, these are private and momentary solutions; we need systemic solutions for this problem, and we must make significant financial investments within the framework of large state initiatives so that we provide a comprehensive solution to this issue, accountable to you and the people, on which part of this problem we solved this year, and which part we will solve next year,” he stated.

The Chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission also emphasized that the repercussions are exacerbated especially during the summer months.
