Confirmed Case of West Nile Fever in Armenia

The Ministry of Health of Armenia has reported that on June 3, a laboratory-confirmed case of West Nile fever has been recorded in the country. This is a viral disease transmitted through mosquitoes.

Human-to-human transmission of the virus does not occur. The disease exhibits a clear seasonality, occurring from June to October, driven by favorable conditions for mosquito breeding and spread.

About 80% of infected individuals do not develop any symptoms. Clinical symptoms may include headache, muscle aches, rash, joint pain, dizziness, and in severe cases, indications of meningitis, encephalitis, as well as signs of involvement of the central or peripheral nervous system.
