Iranian Researchers File Lawsuit Against Trump
Fifteen Iranian students have filed a lawsuit against the U.S. government in a federal court in Virginia, seeking to halt the suspension of student visa interviews. According to The Verge, this action constitutes a clear violation of the 'Administrative Procedures Act', which prohibits arbitrary actions by the government.
The students' lawyers have emphasized that since May 2019, applicants from Iran and similar countries have been selectively subjected to social media checks. One of the lawyers, Curtis Morrison, stated that Trump's aim with these measures is to prevent the entry of students who do not align with his policies.
Most of these students have been accepted into prestigious American universities for advanced programs, but their visas remain suspended, with some waiting for more than a year for a decision. The restrictions are part of a broader campaign by the Trump administration to limit the scientific and cultural influence of international students, particularly from Muslim countries and China.
