A Strong Magnetic Storm is Ongoing on Earth

A strong magnetic storm has begun on Earth. This was reported by Sergey Bogachev, head of the Solar Astronomy Laboratory at the Institute of Space Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as stated by RIA Novosti.

"This morning, a strong magnetic storm nearing G3 level was recorded on Earth. The peak of magnetic field fluctuations was registered in Moscow," the scientist mentioned.

According to him, the storm was caused by a significant increase in geomagnetic activity, which scientists had discussed the day before due to the emergence of new large coronal holes on the Sun. He added that Earth will remain in a zone of increased solar wind speed until the end of this week.

"During this period, the risks of storms and geomagnetic disturbances will increase," he noted.

It is worth mentioning that after a powerful solar flare of maximum class on the night of May 25, which, however, had no significant impact on Earth, specialists from the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of IKI and ISFZ RAS had predicted the likelihood of strong magnetic storms for the upcoming week.
