Simonyan on the Return of Armenians to Artsakh

The Armenians of Artsakh should one day return to live in their homes when it is safe. This was stated by the President of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, who added that it would be nice if one day Armenian churches were also reopened. According to him, this requires a political strategy.

“When a peace treaty is signed, Armenians can live in Baku. Others can return to the villages where they once lived in Armenian territory. How are Armenians living in Georgia now?” he noted.

According to Simonyan, declaring peace is not merely about exchanging pleasantries. “Five minutes after the peace treaty is signed, residents of Armenia and Azerbaijan will begin to trade, communicate, and cooperate in all possible ways,” he stated.

Simonyan emphasized the need to prepare societies for peace. He cited France and the United Kingdom as examples, pointing out that these European countries have fought for centuries. “Even during the blockade of Artsakh, there was trade. Some representatives from Artsakh sold brandy and received money. Do not live in fairy tales that we will build a wall and not greet each other,” he warned.
