Directors of Metsavan and Mkhchyan Schools Dismissed: Andreasyan
During a recent meeting aimed at addressing citizens' questions, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan stated, "I visited both Metsavan School and Mkhchyan School and met with the staff without cameras." She emphasized the need for a thorough understanding of the situation in Mkhchyan, saying that all necessary actions will be taken in response to identified deficiencies, which have already resulted in the dismissal of the school director.
"In the case of Mkhchyan, we will implement all necessary measures. It is clear that the issues that have arisen must not be repeated," she added. Regarding Metsavan, Andreasyan noted, "We have significant work to do so that the work environment in the school is conducive to educational activities. We will also change the acting director here, and all required steps will be taken."
Meanwhile, ruling party MP Taguhi Ghazaryan commented, "Concerning Mkhchyan, I should note that we and the Ministry of Education are working with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, having discussions and trying to find effective solutions to keep the educational environment free from such problems. This is not just an issue for the general education sector but also a concern regarding various segments of society."
Ghazaryan also mentioned her discussions with the Human Rights Defender regarding the protection of children's rights, stating that they have tools that allow for testing children, with parental consent, to ascertain whether they are embroiled in such issues. "Nonetheless, I am confident this represents a significant challenge that cannot be addressed solely through reforms in the education sector. We also have a strategy process underway against drug abuse in the National Security Council, which will address these issues across various fields, and I hope that through this strategy, we can make a strong impact on solving problems in the education sector as well,” she insisted.
It is important to note that an incident occurred at Metsavan School where students, parents, and teachers displayed inappropriate behavior towards a history teacher in front of cameras. Earlier, it was reported that high school students at Mkhchyan School had forced two fourth-graders to consume drugs.
