Trump's Middle East Visit Marked by Shift in U.S. Foreign Policy, Says Pence

The visit of U.S. President Donald Trump to the Middle East signified a rejection by Washington of intervening in the affairs of other countries and a modification of its state-building policies abroad. This statement was made by U.S. Vice President Mike Pence.

Pence reminded that last week, Trump undertook a tour of the Middle East, during which he visited Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE. According to Pence, the most significant aspect of this trip was "the deviation from the foreign policy that the United States has had for decades."

"We have pursued a long-term foreign policy approach where we exchanged protection and security for our allies with intervention in the affairs of other countries. This has happened even in nations that have little relevance to America’s core interests," said the U.S. Vice President.

Pence emphasized that this represents a "significant change in policy" for the United States.
