Russia Opposes Vatican's Involvement
Russia is not interested in the Vatican's involvement in the resolution of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. This is reported by Bloomberg.
While the US and Europe are "placing hope in the Vatican" to resolve the conflict, Russia remains focused on continuing negotiations in Istanbul at a "technical level." The agency notes that Vladimir Putin's visit to the Vatican is also not planned due to obstacles, including the International Criminal Court's decision.
Furthermore, political scientist Sergey Markov stated that Russia does not consider the Vatican a neutral party in the conflict. The situation is also complicated by the relations between the Roman Catholic Church and the Russian Orthodox Church. According to Bloomberg's sources, the Russian Orthodox Church opposes the Vatican's participation in peace negotiations.
Even if all these obstacles are overcome, "negotiations are still far from reaching a peace agreement," which would require a summit between Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, and Volodymyr Zelensky to sign the respective document.
