Number of Tourists in Armenia Decreases
In the first quarter of this year, the number of tourists visiting Armenia has decreased by 11.3% or approximately 49,000 people. This information was provided by the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia to Radar Armenia.
From January to March 2025, Armenia welcomed 386,741 tourists, compared to 435,775 during the same period last year. The majority of tourists, 37.3% or 144,000 individuals, were citizens of the Russian Federation. However, the share of Russian citizens among the tourists visiting Armenia has decreased. In the same period last year, 42.3% of the tourists were Russian citizens, but this year it has dropped to 37.3%.
According to citizenship, the next highest group comes from Armenia itself (i.e., Armenian citizens visiting as tourists). The number of Armenian tourists this year is 76,861, compared to 75,483 last year. The third largest group comprises citizens of Georgia, with 59,624 tourists this year, down from 61,830 last year, accounting for 15.4% of the total number of tourists. Following Georgia are citizens of Iran, with 34,369 tourists compared to 33,729 last year, or 8.9% of the total number of tourists.
Interestingly, there are countries from which there were no tourists during the first quarter of last year, but this year they have visited Armenia. For example, Zambia has 1 tourist, Laos has 1, Tanzania 2, Saint Lucia 1, Sierra Leone 3, and Sudan 1 tourist.
