Putin Simplifies Citizenship Process for Citizens of Certain Countries
Mariam Z.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree regarding the simplified granting of Russian citizenship to citizens of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. As a result, the mandatory requirements for permanent residence in the Russian Federation, proficiency in the Russian language, and knowledge of Russian history will not apply to citizens of these countries when applying for Russian citizenship.
They can submit their citizenship application at Russian diplomatic representations in their respective countries, while those residing in Russia may apply to the territorial bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation according to their place of residence or location.
