I Didn't Ask for Their Opinion: Trump
U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that Washington did not consult with Israel before recognizing the new government of Syria, despite concerns from Tel Aviv regarding Islamist President Ahmed al-Shara'a. He made these remarks to reporters on an airplane after concluding a four-day tour of the Middle East, according to Reuters.
“I didn’t ask for their opinion. I think this is the right decision. I have already been thanked for this step. ‘We want Syria to develop,’” Trump explained.
On May 14, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bencen announced the commencement of the process to lift sanctions against Syria. The head of the Treasury Department noted that the agency is undertaking such measures to stabilize the situation and promote progress towards peace in the Middle Eastern country.
