Hakan Fidan Provides Details on Russian-Ukrainian Negotiations
The delegations of Russia and Ukraine have reached a fundamental agreement regarding a new round of negotiations in Istanbul today, stated Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, according to RIA Novosti.
Under the leadership of Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, the first negotiations between the delegations of Russia and Ukraine in the last three years concluded in Istanbul at 15:20 Moscow time (16:20 Yerevan time).
“Today is an important day for achieving peace. Thanks to intensive diplomatic efforts, the delegations of Russia and Ukraine met in Istanbul with Turkey as a mediator. The parties have reached a fundamental agreement regarding a new meeting,” Fidan announced on social media.
The Turkish minister confirmed that the parties have agreed on prisoner exchange proposals in the format of “1000 for 1000” and ceasefire proposals.
“Turkey will continue to exert all possible efforts to ensure stable peace between Russia and Ukraine,” Fidan emphasized. Earlier, Fidan had stated that Ankara sincerely believes that with a constructive approach from both sides, the Istanbul negotiations between Russia and Ukraine could lead to peace.
