Response from Ararat Regional Administration Regarding the Incident at Mkhchyan School

The Ararat Regional Administration is deeply concerned about the incident that took place at the Kristapor Alaverdyan School in Mkhchyan.

“We strongly condemn the unacceptable phenomena recorded in the educational institution and declare that the case will remain under constant supervision. We will do everything possible to prevent the recurrence of similar situations. It is shocking and painful for us to witness such incidents, especially in a school, which is a place where children should be maximum protected,” the statement from the regional administration reads.

The area supervisors from the governor's office will be visiting the school regularly to fully assess the situation on-site and find solutions. Law enforcement agencies have already initiated criminal proceedings. The Investigative Committee reports that public criminal proceedings have been initiated against four individuals for transferring a substance resembling white powder to children, and a decision has been made to arrest one person.

It is worth recalling that media reports circulated about a horrifying incident that occurred at the school days ago. According to the information, several high school boys bound two fourth-grade students in the school restroom and forcibly administered drugs to them, resulting in dependence. The affected children began stealing money from home to buy drugs from the same students again.
