Papoyan to Personally Visit Georgia to Discuss Issues on the Ground

In the near future, it is not ruled out that the Minister of Economy of Armenia, Gevorg Papoyan, will personally visit Georgia to discuss issues related to the export of brandy spirit on site. He made this statement during a session of the National Assembly today.

"There is indeed a problem, and I believe that our entrepreneurs are right," emphasized Papoyan, referring to the concerns raised by Armenian alcohol producers and exporters who held a protest near the Georgian embassy in Yerevan today.

Papoyan did not consider it a coincidence that entrepreneurs held a protest right in front of the Georgian embassy since they also understand that the issue is not within the jurisdiction of the Armenian government. "We are discussing various scenarios and situations with our partners in Georgia regarding this matter. Of course, the business community is also involved in similar discussions through its connections and means. For this reason, it is possible, and I do not rule out that I will visit Georgia soon to further discuss these issues on site," the minister informed.

He highlighted that unlike other products, for which the ministry has been able to resolve issues such as exports of textiles, aluminum, and flowers, the issue of brandy spirit remains unresolved.

It should be noted that participants of today’s protest complained that the Georgian side is creating obstacles for the passage of cargo vehicles from Armenia to Russia, insisting that laboratory tests must be carried out in Georgia. As a result, cargo carriers are forced to wait for several weeks at the Armenian-Georgian border checkpoint.
