The Head of the Investigative Committee Addressed the Incident Involving a Young Man from Artsakh
The Investigative Committee of Armenia has not yet initiated a criminal case regarding the alleged beating of a young man from Artsakh by the police in Vanadzor. This was stated by the Head of the Investigative Committee, Arthur Poghosyan, while responding to a question from opposition MP Garnik Danielyan during a session of the National Assembly.
According to the Head of the Investigative Committee, forensic doctors found no signs of beating on the body of the victim, Tigran Ulubabyan, but several additional examinations have been ordered. “The incident has received significant public attention, but at this stage, there are no grounds to initiate a case against the police officers,” he noted.
Poghosyan added that he and the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Anahit Manasyan, have repeatedly met with Ulubabyan. During the investigation, confrontations have also taken place between him and the police officers.
Earlier, lawyer Roman Yeritsyan reported that two armed masked individuals had attacked a residence in Vanadzor, threatening to kill a 28-year-old woman and her child while stealing gold jewelry. The woman was called to the police station to give a testimony, and she requested Ulubabyan to accompany her. He stated that he was interrogated roughly on-site, and the following day, he was called back and beaten, being held in the precinct for several hours.
